"Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime is not installed" error prevents installation

Overview

When installing Office Timeline, you may see the following error message:

“The Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime is not installed. Do you want to download it now?”

If you click Yes, nothing may happen or you may be redirected to a Microsoft download page that is no longer available.

Solution

This message indicates that you are using an older installer of Office Timeline.

To resolve the issue:

1. Download the latest version of Office Timeline from:
   https://www.officetimeline.com/updates
2. Run the downloaded installer.

The current version of Office Timeline does not require the Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) Runtime, so no additional components need to be installed.

Background

Older versions of Office Timeline were built using Microsoft’s Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) framework and required the VSTO Runtime to be installed.

Current versions use a newer architecture and no longer depend on VSTO. If you encounter this error, it means the installer you are using is outdated.

Additional Notes

If you continue to see this message after downloading the latest version:

• Make sure you are running the correct installation file
• Remove any previously downloaded installers and download a fresh copy from the official website
