Overview
OTL depends on Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime (VSTO, for short) to run. VSTO, in turn, depends on Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable.
- Microsoft has not published any End of Life (EoL) notification for VSTO;
- However, it has published an EoL notification for Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 (MSVC++ 2010); please see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#visual-studio-2010-vc-100-sp1-no-longer-supported).
Some of our customers have raised concerns regarding this version of MSVC++ Redistributable no longer being supported. At this time, we have not yet received further information on an updated VSTO Runtime version, based on a supported MSVC++.
Solution
Our tests showed that VSTO Runtime works fine with the latest version of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, which can be downloaded from here:
If you have security concerns, you have to manually uninstall MSVC++ 2010 and then install the latest version of the MSVC++ runtime. Please run a set of validation tests for Office Timeline after that step. We would appreciate you letting us know whether this worked or not.
