Clarification on Office Timeline Update Communications (August 2025)

Why we encouraged an update

We recently sent an email and in-app message encouraging users to update to the latest version of Office Timeline.

While these messages may have sounded urgent, it was part of our regular effort to help customers stay current with the latest features, fixes, and security enhancements.

Some users may have received this message even if they are already up to date.  If you are on the latest version, or subscribe to Office Timeline Online, you can disregard this message. 

Staying current is the best way to stay secure

There is no known security breach, and customer data remains safe. However, versions earlier than 9.04.01 may include outdated components. That’s why we strongly recommend updating to ensure the best experience and protection.

Is my version of Office Timeline secure?

If you're using version 9.04.01 or newer, you're not at risk of any known vulnerabilities. Earlier versions may contain outdated components, which is why we recommend updating.

How do I check which version I have?

Open PowerPoint and go to the Office Timeline tab. Click on Help > About to view your current version.

What is the latest version available?

The most recent version is 11.21. You can see all updates and our version changelog at www.officetimeline.com/updates.

I bought a license recently. Do I still need to update?

Possibly. Although new licenses come with the latest version, it’s possible to activate a license on an older install. We recommend checking your version to be sure. 

Has any customer data been compromised?

No. There has been no data breach or compromise. Our alert was sent as a precautionary measure to encourage updating for optimal security.

Why did I receive the email alert if I’m already up to date?

A small number of users may have received this message by mistake, even if they’re already on the latest version. If you’re up to date or if you subscribe to Office Timeline Online, there’s nothing you need to do, and you can safely ignore this message. We sincerely apologize for any accidental communication.

What if I have Office Timeline Online?

You are not at risk of any known vulnerabilities. You can disregard any messaging regarding updating your version.
