Common issues when updating
Overview
When updating from an older version of Office Timeline to the latest build, the installation may fail to complete.
Most update issues are related to differences between older VSTO-based versions and the current NetOffice-based version, or to PowerPoint add-in settings.
Symptoms
After updating to the latest version of Office Timeline, you may experience one of the following:
-
Office Timeline is no longer visible in PowerPoint
-
You receive an error related to an older VSTO-based installer
-
You receive an Error 1001 message when uninstalling or upgrading
Solution
-
If Office Timeline is not visible in PowerPoint after updating:
- Restart PowerPoint
- Go to File → Options → Add-ins
- Select COM Add-ins → Go
- Ensure "Office Timeline" is enabled
-
If you receive a Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) error during installation, you are likely using an older installer. Download and run the latest version of Office Timeline from: https://www.officetimeline.com/updates.
-
If you receive Error 1001, the previous version may not have been removed correctly. Uninstall the older version of Office Timeline, then install the latest build. See how here.
