The add-in doesn’t load at all or crashes when creating a timeline

Symptoms

  1. Either the add-in doesn’t load at all, or, if the Office Timeline tab does show in the ribbon, PowerPoint closes when trying to create a timeline.
  2. Logs show the initialization sequence was started and then suddenly cut off.

Solution

We’ve managed to trace the root cause to the log4net component, and we’re working on solving the issue ASAP.

Until we release the fix for this issue, the workaround is to completely turn off logging. To do that, set the HKCU\Software\OfficeTimelineEx\LogLevel registry string value to "OFF" (all capitals).
