Import error: “To import this Project file, save it in the Gantt Chart view first”

Symptoms

When trying to import a Microsoft Project file into Office Timeline, you get an error message that says, “To import this Project file, save it in the Gantt Chart view first.”

When you save your Project file in any other view than Gantt Chart, the add-in can’t access that data. That’s why you’re asked to save your file in the Gantt Chart view first to be able to import it.

  1. Open the Project file you were trying to import locate the View section in the Task tab.view-section-task-tab-microsoft-project

  2. There, open the dropdown menu and select Gantt chart.gantt-chart-view-microsoft-project

  3. Save and close your Project file.

  4. Go back to Office Timeline in PowerPoint and start the import again.
