Customize multiple timeline elements simultaneously

Overview

Office Timeline enables you to customize multiple objects on your timeline slide simultaneously. There are two ways you can do this, and we’ll explain them both in the short guide below:

A) Multiple selection

B) Apply to all

A)  Multiple selection

Multiple selection is a quick and efficient way to style your timeline if you wish to apply a specific property (color, size, shape, etc.) to a number of chosen items simultaneously. Here’s how it works:

  1. Use Shift + Click to select all timeline elements that you want to customize. Make sure to include only objects of the same type (only task bars, only milestone dates, etc.). If you take a quick look at the image below, you’ll see we’ve selected the first 3 task shapes above the timescale.select-multiple-items-to-customize

  2. With the items selected, use the intuitive Style Pane on the right to customize them. Any changes you make will instantly apply to the whole selection.selected-items-customized-simultaneously

B) Apply to all

With large, detailed timelines that have many tasks and milestones, using multiple selection for mass customization might become a little cumbersome. In such cases, when you wish to apply the same styling options to all objects of the same type, we recommend using Office Timeline’s Apply to all functionality.

  1. From your timeline slide, select one of the timeline elements you want to customize, and then change its appearance using the Style Pane. In the example below, you can see we've selected the "Onboarding" task shape and styled it as a large orange star.

  2. When done customizing, click on Apply to all at the bottom of the styling section corresponding to your selected item (in our case, Task Shape), and then choose the properties you want to apply to the rest of the items.

Note: For items inside Swimlanes, check or uncheck the box "This swimlane only" to apply the same style either to items in the current swimlane or the entire timeline.

  3. When ready, click Apply, and Office Timeline will do the rest. Here's how our timeline looks like after choosing to apply the same purple color to all task shapes in the current swimlane:styling-choices-applied-to-all-swimlane-task-bars
